I take on a few photography assignments in Devon each year, principally capturing live performances and candid photos of people at work or play. I also do headshots and group photos. I shoot on location and can bring flash equipment as required.

I covered this charity cycling event for my employer, which was raising money for Hospiscare by cycling from Exeter to Land’s End.

My Working Style

I like my photos to tell the story or explain the moment. With candid or theatre work, this is the art of anticipation, framing and timing to capture those definitive moments. You can see this in many of the samples below.

Candid work is often complemented by posed or part-staged pictures; it’s important to get some rapport with the subjects, I have to help them feel at ease, show them what I need and usually have a lot of fun doing it.

There’s the technical side of things, of course. Shutter speed effects, depth of field and so on. These things are important. Photography is all about light, though, so by appreciating and exploiting lighting, I can create my best images.
